From Rockybado 4: Running Up a Hill

David Ingram woke up early this morning. It wasn’t that he had instantly become a morning person. Far from it. Today was his first day at his first full-time job after graduation from college. And he was more than excited about it. David's younger brother, Brody, on the other hand, was looking forward to sleeping in. Even though that might have been the case, he was still excited about his internship. He was hoping to build a deeper connection with the other intern, Jacob Frank, who is also a quarter Italian. Brody was also hoping to build deeper connections and network with everyone else in the firm.

However, Brody was having a hard time getting out of bed. As always. David wasn’t quite sure why he wanted his younger brother of a year to wake up. Probably just because he wanted to say, “Buh bye, Brody. See you this afternoon when you’re in a better mood.”

Then again, maybe not.

Perhaps he was just hoping to wake Brody up so that he could enjoy the day as well, even though he didn’t have his internship today.

This was going to be fun and exciting at the same time.

“Wake up, B-Rodes,” David said to his younger brother.
“No,” Brody answered in his pillow.
“For real. It’s eight o’clock.”
“So?”
“I’m leaving for my first day,” David replied.
“Have fun,” Brody replied semi-sarcastically.
“Are you gonna stay in bed?”
“What do you think?”
“I’ll take that as a yes?”
“You thought right.”

Brody unconsciously pulled his covers over himself, and he went back to sleep. Who knew when he was going to finally wake up and enjoy the day? He would probably be fully awake by the time David would come home from work this afternoon, even though he would most likely get out of bed by noon at the very latest. Then again, maybe not. It’s summer, and Brody didn’t have much going on today. Why not just sleep the whole day away and catch up on some z’s. Probably a good idea.

David, however, couldn’t go back to sleep, even if he wanted to. For one, he had his first day at his first full-time job. Secondly, since he had his first day at his first full-time job, he couldn’t sleep at all last night because of the intensely mixed feelings of nervousness and excitement. He was super excited about starting his job right, but he had absolutely no idea what to expect.

He decided to take today as an opportunity to become closer to the people in the workplace.
